Since 2021, Battery Supplies has been part of TVH. Before that, the company had a rich history. In 2024, Battery Supplies may in fact blow out 25 candles. Time for a look back at the story of Battery Supplies.

In 1999, the story of the battery supplier in the Lindestraat in Waregem began. Founders Hans Weyme and Alexander De Soete started with 2 employees: Johan Willems as a technician and Charon Deprez as an administrative all-rounder. They were the first employees of Battery Supplies in 1999 and still work for the company today. The first products they (re)sold were starter and motorcycle batteries and traction batteries.

Dimitri Boudry (General Sales Manager Battery Supplies) begins, “We started by buying and reselling batteries, but soon we changed course. We bought parts and assembled traction batteries ourselves, fully customized for the customer. This allowed us to deliver faster, buy more cheaply, optimize our stock and so we grew to become experts in traction batteries and block batteries. We also always included new technologies in our range, for example, we developed a department for the assembly of customized lithium batteries.”

Growth and expansion

With a growing team, including a purchase team and specialized sales teams for the Benelux, France and other export markets, the scope expanded to South Africa, the Middle East, and New Caledonia. In 2012, Battery Supplies moved to larger and updated premises in Deerlijk, and in 2018 they acquired Adret: Battery Supplies France, founded in 2008, thus acquired a permanent base of operations.

Cedric Van Lancker (Category Manager) adds, “In 2010, we launched the concept of Battery Street® stores. These stores target SMEs and individuals. With five own stores and several franchise-corners, we specialized further. With the Battery Fix division, we focus on the revision of batteries for bicycles and hand tools, in addition to small batteries for laptops and cell phones. Today, three franchise stores remain, but the focus of growth for Battery Supplies within the TVH Parts group lies elsewhere: traction batteries, custom made lithium solutions and stationary batteries. Of course, we also continue to invest in our service team that visits our customers for repairs and maintenance of our batteries and chargers.”
